Testosterone Part VIII – Testosterone Deficiency & Alzheimer’s Disease With Other Health Conditions
I. Introduction
Testosterone deficiency
Testosterone is a male hormone. Besides promoting libido, it has other important functions such as maintaining muscle mass and forming bone, and regulating heart muscle and cholesterol. It also helps to improve the oxygen levels throughout the body as well as controlling blood glucose and strengthening the immune system. Starting at age 40, levels of testosterone start to diminish. The levels of the by-product prolactin of testosterone of men increases, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT thus triggering low levels of testosterone.
Alzheimer’s Disease.
Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder named for German physician Alois Alzheimer. Alzheimer’s destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal.
II. Causes
Older men with lower levels of free, or unbound, testosterone circulating in their bloodstreams could be at higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease (AD) than their peers. In fact, testosterone deficiency causes the accumulation of beta-amyloid, a toxic peptide in certain region in aging brain. Study show that testosterone decreases secretion of harmful beta- amyloid and increases secretion of sbeta APP alpha as result of neuroproductive effect.
III. Symptoms
1. Memory failure.
2. Loss of ability to concentrate.
3. Reduced intellectual agility.
4. Passive attitude.
5. Poor or decreased judgment.
6. Problems with abstract thinking.
7. Moodiness and emotionality.
8. Inner unrest.
9. Loss of initiative.
10. Reduce interest in surrounding.
11. Hypochondria.
III. Prevention and treatment
Men suffered Alzheimer disease because of testosterone deficiency are likely also have conditions of heart disease, aging, high blood pressure, high levels of cholesterol, weakened immune system and liver malfunction. We will try to give reader as much information and hope that these will help in preventing and treating Alzheimer disease.

Iron specifically offers the added benefit of raising levels of oxygen in the blood that is essential for providing nutrition to cell needs. High protein and zinc are two nutrients that help to optimize free testosterone levels and muscle-building.
iv) Nuts and seeds
Nuts and seeds contain high amounts of unsaturated fat and vitamin E. Unsaturated fat helps to prevent clots of arteries and lower cholesterol levels.
b) Increase levels of testosterone
i) Oyster and crustaceansOyster and crustaceans contain high levels of magnesium and zinc that is a natural aromatase inhibitor playing a key role in regulating testosterone levels as well as improving circulation of blood to the penis vessels.
ii) AvocadoAvocado contains high amounts of folic acid, which helps metabolize proteins. The vitamin B6 in avocado helps to stimulate the growth of testosterone.
iii) Saw palmetto
Saw palmetto not only helps to balance the natural hormone production but also helps to boost testosterone in men as well as estrogen in women if needed by our body resulting in a healthy, normal sex drive.
iv)Cinnamon Bark
The sweet and spicy taste of cinnamon bark is considered to have a very hot energy. In Chinese medicine, cinnamon bark increases the Yang energy and sexual vitality.
v) Sting nettle roots
Sting nettle rootsSting nettle root binds to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in place of testosterone resulting in a reduction of SHBG binding of free testosterone, therefore helping increase the levels of free testosterone. It also promotes healthy prostate gland that helps to stimulate the sexual desire.
vi) Muira Pauma
Muira pauma is stems and roots of a ptychopetalum plant in South America. It has been used as an aphrodisiac, tonic and cure for muscle paralysis and strengthening the liver function that helps to cure the hormone imbalance in aging men. Study shows that muira pauma is a libido enhancer.
vii) Cordyceps
Cordyceps is one of the primary herbal substances used in tonic herbalism as an anti-aging agent and for the purposes of rejuvenation. It also helps to nourish and strengthen the kidneys and lungs and tonifies qi, relieves depression of liver qi as resulting of eliminating the surplus of estrogen and sex hormone binding globuline.
viii) Ginseng
Ginseng in Chinese medicine is used as a pituitary strengthening herb. It also contains herbs that benefit the endocrine system which results in tonifiying the entire endocrine system and helping the release of human growth hormone (HGH).
ix) DHEA
DHEA allows our body to create other hormones such as testosterone. Study shows that DHEA is a precursor to sex hormones. The deficiency of DHEA causes the deficiency of other sex hormones resulting in loss of bone density, increasing of body mass, hardening of blood vessels and low sex drive.
c) Increase levels of oxygen and blood circulation for brain cell needs
i) Onion and GarlicGarlic and onions contain high amounts of sulfur compounds that not only help to improve circulation of blood but also help to keep your platelets from clumping together.
ii) TaurineTaurine is an amino acid that acts as an antioxidant helping to fortify cardiac contraction and enhance the outflow of blood.
iii) MagnesiumMagnesium helps to improve blood circulation by permitting the muscles in the arterial wall to rest.
iv) Ginkgo bilobaUnlike aspirin, Ginkgo biloba will not cause upset stomach and internal bleeding. Also, Ginkgo biloba can improve blood circulation. Be sure not to take Ginkgo seeds because they are toxic and can cause seizures.
v) TansyTansy is used to help heart palpitations and also helps to improve blood circulation and oxygen for brain cell needs.
iv) Zinc and iron
Zinc and iron together help to increase oxygen levels, produce of more red blood cells as well as aiding the circulation of bloodstream.Be sure to talk to your doctor before taking any above recommendations.
B. Condition:
Alzheimer’s disease caused by testosterone deficiency with other conditions such as high levels of cholesterol.Besides the natural remedies in (A) these additional natural remedies will help to lower the levels of cholesterol.
i) Apple
Study shows that eating 2 apples a day will help to drop your cholesterol level by 16%. Apples contain rich flavonoids and pectins which form a gel in the stomach that keeps fats from being absorbed.
ii) Kiwi
This super food kiwi is high in vitamins A, C, and K that help to lower your cholesterol levels. It also offers high quantities of calcium, magnesium, potassium and fiber that are the main vitamins in helping to reduce cholesterol levels. We will discuss more of vitamin supplements and cholesterol in part III of this series.
iii) Magnesium
Magnesium deficiency increases the danger of heart disease and stroke as we mentioned in the previous article. Study shows that adding this mineral to your diet could lower your cholesterol level by 33%.
iv) Lutein
Study shows that people that have alot of lutein in their blood stream see no increase in the thickness of their carotid arteries. That means LDL cholesterol have not oxidized causing formation of dangerous plaque at their arteries wall leading to heart attacks and lowering cholesterol levels.
v) Hawk thorn berry
Hawk thorn berry contains bioflavonoia that help in increasing the blood to the blood muscles, therefore it helps to prevent and reduce blood vessel degeneration. Daily consumptions of hawk thorn berry can enhance circulation and treat valvula insufficiency, irregular pulse and abnormal acid levels in the blood. Study shows that hawk thorn berry bioflavonoia also helps inlowering LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides while raising HDL cholesterol levels.
C) Condition:
Alzheimer’s disease caused by testosterone deficiency with other conditions such as high blood pressure.Besides the natural remedies in (A) these addition natural remedies will help to lower blood pressure.
i) Coenzyme Q10
CoQ10 significantly reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure. There is also a reduction in HbA1C, a marker for long-term glycemic control.
ii) Folic acid
Folate is a vitamin B that is necessary for the formation of red blood cells. It may help to lower high blood pressure in some people, possibly by reducing elevated homocysteine levels.
iii) Celery
If you are asking advice from your doctor about high blood pressure, chances are he will tell you to take 4 stalks of celery daily. Study shows that celery contains a chemical called limonene that acts as a mild tranquilizer that can lower levels of stress hormones in your blood. This allows your blood vessels to expand, giving your blood more room and reducing pressure.
iv) Red tea
Red tea has flavonoids, which have been proven effective in treating assorted skin and circulation problems.
D) Condition:
Alzheimer’s disease caused by testosterone deficiency with other conditions such as heart diseases.
Besides chorella, onions and garlic, nuts and seeds that has been mentioned above.
i) Vegetables and fruits.
Vegetable and fruits contain high amounts vitamins A, E, C and B. Vitamin E, the antioxidants beta carotene and vitamin C help to strengthen your small blood vessels and thins your blood so it can flow smoothly in result of lowering the risk of heart disease and strokes. iii) Mistletoe
Mistletoe can stimulate the heartbeat and increase cardiac output. It can help to relieve heart strain, stimulate circulation, and lower blood pressure. Do not overdose and eat mistletoe berriea, because it is toxic.
iv) L-Arginine
L-Arginine helps to increase the production of nitric oxide in our body, this has an anti-angina and anti-stress effect upon the arteries enabling the muscles in the arterial walls to relax. L-Arginine also helps to prevent the build up of plaque on the arterial walls. L- Arginne taken either orally or intravenously has been found to prevent and reverse atherosclerosis, improving the functional status of heart failure and increasing blood flow in heart disease patients.
v) Taurine
Taurine is an amino acid that acts as an antioxidant helping to fortify cardiac contraction and enhance the outflow of blood from the heart. Intake of taurine will reduce the risk of congestive heart failure and arteriosclerosis
vi) Nu zhen zi (privet fruit):
Nu zhen zi is the ying kidney and liver tonic that is the significant immune enhancement agent. Nu zhen zi also helps ying deficiency such as dizziness, floater, weak knee and enhancing heart blood.

Hormone Replacement Therapy To Alleviate Menopausal Symptoms
If you have not yet experienced menopause then the terms hormone replacement therapy may sound foreign to you. As the terms suggest, HRT or hormone replacement therapy is a treatment aimed at easing the symptoms of menopause by hormonal replacement.
Menopause is that period in a woman’s life when the body is in the process of changing and these changes are manifested through various symptoms like hot flushes, mood changes, depression, insomnia and night sweating.
A woman in menopausal stage can opt for hormonal replacement therapy is she wants to alleviate the many symptoms of menopause. Hormonal replacement therapy has been found effective in treating menopausal women who became depressed.
There are sectors who believe that hormonal replacement therapy can be used to treat other complications arising from female menopause like diabetes, osteoporosis and heart ailments.
However, some women experiencing menopause do not go for hormone replacement therapy because of the possible side effects of the said treatment. There are those who believe that women taking hormonal replacement therapy have high risks of developing breast cancer. Hormonal replacement therapy has also been blamed for blood clot formations resulting to heart disease.
There are experts, including Dr. John Lee, who believe that hormone replacement therapy expose menopausal women to greater health risks than if they were not taking the therapy. The risk of getting cancer is one of the reason s why most women experiencing menopause opt for natural and alternative treatments for the many symptoms of menopause.
During menopause, the production of a woman’s estrogen and progesterone levels become erratic. These hormones play important roles in maintaining the proper functioning of a woman’s body like bone strengthening and blood cholesterol level maintenance.
During menopause, the production of these hormones decline and this causes bone problems and other ailments. Hormone replacement therapy can bring back the proper levels of these hormones in women and can prevent the risk of getting various menopause-related diseases.
While estrogen replacement has been found effective as a treatment for many years, medical research has shown that it increase a woman’s chances of getting breast and uterine cancer. This led the way to the addition of progestin to hormone treatments.
Women who eat the proper food and lead healthy lifestyles are the ones who are most probably able to experience menopause normally, even without hormone replacement therapy. For those who are thinking of availing of this therapy, it is important to talk this over with their doctors as the latter can give them the pros and cons of getting HRT.

Muscle Building Exercises – Squats and Deadlifts
By: FitNRG.net
The best muscle building exercises are compound exercises that involve multiple muscle groups and multiple joint movements. Compound exercises such as bench press, military press, squats etc. involve the most amount of muscles in every rep. These types of exercises will help you develop good core strength, strengthen your joints, improve muscle balance and stability, and allow you to lift heavy loads to build more strength.
Squats are one of the most fundamental exercises for building muscle and strength in your legs. The major muscles used during squats are the quadriceps and the glutes. Other muscle groups such as the calves, back, and hamstrings are also recruited during the squat exercise. Proper form and execution is important when performing squats to avoid potential injury.
- Setup your barbell with weights on the squat rack at about shoulder height
- Step under the barbell so that the bar rests across the back of your shoulders and traps
- Secure the bar with your hands, and lift up the weight from the rack and take a step back
- Keeping your head up and looking forward, feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees and lower yourself until your thighs are parallel or slightly below parallel with the floor
- Push yourself back up to starting position
Deadlifts is one of the best compound exercises that involves almost every single muscle in your body. It requires strength, coordination, and balance to execute. When performing deadlifts, you must execute it with proper form by keeping your back tight and straight. Curving or rounding your back in any way can lead to potential back injuries.
- With the barbell in front of you, bend your knees and slightly lean forward to grip the barbell
- Keep your back straight, and face looking forward, drive up with your legs until you are standing straight up
- Lower the weight back down to starting position to complete your rep
Many, if not most, people in the gym avoid doing compound exercises such as these. For one, they are tough to do, and are very physically demanding, which is what makes squats and deadlifts the best exercises you can use to develop strength and build muscle. Compound exercises such as these should make up the core of your workout routine. There’s no reason to waste time in the gym and not perform exercises that will deliver the best gains in muscle and strength.

Widely Known “Healthy” Foods And Drinks That Must Be Avoided
1. Fat-Free Foods Will Sabotage Your Weight-Loss Efforts
The introduction of more than 5,000 low-fat and non-fat foods over the past decade has contributed to an epidemic of obesity in America. The trouble comes when people think they can eat unlimited amounts of reduced-fat cookies, frozen yogurt and cakes. While these foods contain less fat than their full-fat versions, they tend to have more sugar and can be even higher in calories. Choosing fresh produce and other fiber-rich foods allows a person to eat a large volume for relatively few calories because it promotes a feeling of fullness.
2. Vegetable Oil
Polyunsaturated oils, which include vegetable oils like corn, soy, safflower and canola contain far more omega 6 than omega 3fat, and are thus the worst oils you can eat. Experts looking at the dietary ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, which are the healthy fats found in fish oil and cod liver oil , suggest that in early human history the ratio was about 1:1. Currently most Americans eat a dietary ratio that falls between 20:1 and 50:1. The optimal ratio is most likely closer to the original ratio of 1:1. For most of us this means greatly reducing the omega-6 fatty acids we consume and increasing the amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Further, polyunsaturated oils are the worst oils to cook with because they tend to become easily oxidized or rancid when exposed to heat from cooking. This results in the formation of trans fat and damaging free radicals. Unfortunately, the truly healthy oil, coconut oil, is regarded as the ‘dangerous’ oil and vegetables oils are regarded as healthy, when it should be the other way around.
3. Soy
In recent years soy has emerged as a ‘near perfect’ food, with supporters claiming it can provide an ideal source of protein, lower cholesterol, protect against cancer and heart disease, reduce menopause symptoms, and prevent osteoporosis, among other things. However, numerous studies have found that soy products may:
- Increase the risk of breast cancer in women, brain damage in both men and women, and abnormalities in infants
- Contribute to thyroid disorders, especially in women
- Promote kidney stones
- Cause severe, potentially fatal food allergies
Perhaps the most disturbing of soy’s ill effects on health has to do with its phytoestrogens that can mimic the effects of the female hormone estrogen. These phytoestrogens have been found to have adverse effects on various human tissues, and drinking even two glasses of soy milk daily for one month has enough of the chemical to alter a woman’s menstrual cycle. Soy is particularly problematic for infants, and soy infant formulas should be avoided. It has been estimated that infants who are fed soy formula exclusively receive five birth control pills worth of estrogen every day.
4. Orange Juice (and All Fruit Juice)
Fruit juice has about eight full teaspoons of sugar per eight-ounce glass. This sugar is typically a fruit sugar called fructose, which is every bit as dangerous as regular table sugar since it will also cause a major increase in insulin levels. Further, many commercial orange juices are contaminated with mold from damaged fruit that are processed. So if you drink commercial orange juice regularly you will be exposed to these mold toxins. This doesn’t mean that you should avoid fruit, just fruit juice. When the fruit is intact and whole, its fiber will somewhat moderate the release of fructose into the bloodstream as well as somewhat moderate insulin release. However, if you are overweight, have high blood pressure or high blood sugar, it would probably be wise to avoid most fruits until you have these problems under control.
5. Diet Sodas
The prevalence of obesity has reached epidemic proportions and many Americans are making efforts to side-step extra calories. They are turning to diet soft drinks — Diet Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and Sprite — as their beverage of choice. But is this a wise health choice? Perhaps not, for according to a study by researchers at the University of Texas San Antonio, middle-aged adults who drink diet soft drinks may be drastically increasing their risks of gaining weight later on. By itself, diet soda cannot be blamed for weight gain; however, various contributing factors may play a role. For example, a person who drinks a diet soda may feel it’s acceptable to make up for those calories with another high-calorie food. And while the tongue is temporarily satisfied by the sweet taste of diet soda, the brain isn’t similarly fooled and still craves calories for energy. Other studies have suggested people who drink an artificially sweetened beverage before a meal will eat more high-calorie foods than those who do not. Therefore, with diet soft drinks and sugar-sweetened beverages (even fruit juices) linked to weight gain and obesity, many people are left wondering, “What is safe to drink?” The answer, of course, is water.

Lower Blood Pressure Naturally – How to Produce Nitric Oxide for Optimal Health
It is now well known that the molecule nitric oxide is responsible for many positive health benefits in the body including lowering blood pressure naturally.
The question is how do we get enough nitric oxide so that it makes a significant difference in our cardiovascular health and particularly our blood pressure.
One of the factors in nitric oxide therapy is the inclusion of nutraceutical supplements in your diet. These are natural bioactive compounds with heath promoting properties and are very effective when consumed by themselves. However, when taken together their total effect is greater than if you took them separately.
In a nitric oxide therapy program the nutraceutical supplements are a combination of specific amino acids and antioxidants. Whether you currently have high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease or you want to prevent this condition you should seriously consider taking a daily nitric oxide supplement package to maintain your nitric oxide levels.
There are certain functional foods or nutraceutical supplements which include red meat, fish, olive oil, nuts, and pomegranate juice that have the ability to produce nitric oxide in the body. Functional foods are those that have naturally occurring compounds that provide a health benefit or will reduce the risk of disease. Unfortunately when it comes to producing NO (nitric oxide) you would need to consume an excessive amount of these foods in order to produce enough Nitric Oxide to make a significant difference.
Although you should include these functional foods in you daily regime your diet alone won’t be enough to provide the Nitric Oxide at the levels you need.
The Next Step
This takes us to the next step, which is exercise. When you exercise your body produces more Nitric Oxide than if you are at rest. Provided you have no restrictions, exercise has no down side. It can only be beneficial. Exercise in combination with proper diet will produce nitric oxide in a greater amount than each would provide separately. In fact, each of these elements will enhance the effectiveness of the other.
Although these steps are effective in producing Nitric Oxide in our bodies they do not raise the level of Nitric Oxide to the level that we require for optimal health.
The Final Step
If you combine a diet of NO-producing foods, moderate exercise and proper amino acids and antioxidants, your body will produce Nitric Oxide in quantities, which will give you optimal health benefits. This will keep your blood vessels relaxed, which can lower your blood pressure naturally. It will help to keep your cholesterol at normal levels and discourage the formation of blood clogging plaque in your vessels. This leads to a reduction of the inflammation which can cause atherosclerosis and this can all happen in as little as two weeks.

Bodybuilding Supplements
Bodybuilding Supplements a Quick Guide
Protein Supplements – To gain lean muscle
Whey Protein Concentrate blends
Mainly made up of whey concentrate with protein isolate mixed in (80%-20% ratio). Most whey concentrates are ok for low carb diets. All whey proteins are fortified with BCAA’s
Metabolic whey & USN 100% whey are fortified with BCAA’s & Glutamine.
Whey Protein Isolate
Whey isolate is far more expensive as it has a higher biological value than standard whey. It contains higher protein with almost zero carbs and lactose. Great for those who are on a lean diet.
Time Release Proteins
Feeds the body over a longer period of time, to help prevent the body falling into a catabolic state. Good for using along side meals, if the protein content is low. Also ideal for an evening meal replacement.
Immediate release – Whey Concentrate (30 minutes release)
Medium Release – Egg whey proteins (90 minutes release)
Extended Release – Micellar Casein & Milk Protein (3 hour release)
MRP’s (Meal Replacements) – (Lean Muscle Gain)
MRP’s are formulated to give you the essential macronutrients (proteins carbs & fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals etc) that the body requires to work to maximum potential. If you are looking to build lean muscle MRP’s are perfect.
Creatines – Increase Muscle Gains and Strength, Creates lactic acid buffer during workouts (lowers burning sensation in the muscles when training hard).
Creatine Monohydrate
Loading Phase: 2 times daily for 5 days, then once a day from that point on.
Micronised creatine is a smaller grain so therefore dissolves more freely, this means less gritty sand at the bottom of your glass.
Creatine Monohydrate Cycling. This is a personal choice, but its recommened 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. The belief is that, doing so will help you maintain the gains you make. Again if you use it for a to longer period of time, the body gets used to it, so the gains disappear.
Advanced Creatines
These require no loading phase as they are designed to absorb into your system more easily. With advanced creatines you would use them for maximum of 8 weeks then have a 4 week rest period.
Carbohydrates - Energy Drinks
Carbohydrates are the key source of energy in the human body. Carbohydrates should make up 50% of your total daily fuel intake. It is advised to have a regular intake of low glycemic carbohydrates to aid a steady stream of glucose into the blood stream.
A standard training diet should have around 2g of carbs per lb of body weight. Carb intake should be tailored to suit your training needs.
Low glycemic foods can also help towards weight loss due to a slower rate of digestion which creates a feeling of fullness.
Weight Gainers – (Build Mass Size)
Simple really, if you what to increase your body mass and not lean size these products are perfect.
Testosterone Boosters – (Increase Testosterone and build muscle)
Tribulus Terrestris increases testosterone through increasing the lutenizing hormone, this tells your body to produce testosterone.
Tribulus is not a hormonal supplement, it works within the bodies natural limits helping increase muscle and strength.
Alternatively look at ZMA (Testosterone Support)
Products – Zinc Matrix, Biotest ZMA, Maximuscle ZMA
Anti Estrogens – (Testosterone Support)
Estrogen will slow down your testosterone production, kill your muscle gains and/or cause embarrassing side effects like gyno. Decreasing your estrogen can cause you to gain muscle fast!
L-Glutamine – (Muscle Recovery)
Boosts Protein Synthesis. Glutamine is an incredible muscle builder that also increases your natural growth hormone and immunity. It helps you to recover from your workouts quicker as well! This in tern improves performance
BCAA (Branch Chain Amino Acids) – (Muscle Recovery)
Boosts Protein Synthesis and suppresses muscle protein breakdown
Taking BCAA’s before and after training, will help protect the muscle from the stress of heavy training.
Multi Vitamins
Vitamins are the essential tools for keeping your body healthy, also increasing the effectiveness of the supplements you take.
Fat Burners
Thermogenic intensifier, increase metabolism, suppress hunger.
Now mostly ephedrine free (the thing that gives you the jitters). Supplements companies look more towards a more natural way of increasing fat burning effects and increasing metabolism.
Alternatively look at Sida Cordifolia or CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid)
Non-Hormonal Anabolics – Increase Muscle & Strength
(Ecdysterone, Methoxyisoflavone & Ipriflavone)
These products use plant sterols to create anabolic effects for increased muscle growth legally and most of all safely. These are non hormonal flavones that naturally increase protein synthesis, nitrogen retention, and muscle growth. They work very well taken in conjunction with protein because they increase the absorption of protein.
NO (Nitric Oxide) – (Increases blood flow, Pump up Muscles and increase vascular look. Helps prolong Muscle Performance)
This should make it of interest to bodybuilders, as increased blood flow will serve to deliver more nutrients to muscles, thus helping muscles become larger when subject to stress. The fact that Nitric Oxide acts to reduce inflammation should also make it of interest to bodybuilders as it has the potential to reduce the pain associated with subjecting muscles to extreme stress.

Is Caffeine Necessary For Weight Loss Supplements?
With the explosion on the market of 4 hour+ energy shots that contain zero caffeine, I question the value of caffeine in weight loss products and energy pills in general. One major problem is that there are so many sources of caffeine in the diet, including coffee, chocolate, soda pop (diet and regular) and now just about every dietary supplement. Most pre-workout NO products contain some form of caffeine. Many unscrupulous supplement companies are disguising caffeine as “Methyl Xanthines” or simple “Xanthines” as a way to disguise the use of caffeine in their supplement. Things like “Chocamine” ™ and Chocolate extract are primarily made up of caffeine and its derivatives. Finally, herbal extracts like Guarana and certain tea extracts like Mate are used to disguise the caffeine content of dietary supplements. Got to www.best-fatburner.net to get all your top fat burners at discount prices.
Picture this, you wake up in the morning and have large coffee at your favorite Starbucks. The Venti has 480mg of caffeine on average and that is NOT using the expresso beans! So, 480mg to start your day is a whopping dose of caffeine. Then let’s say you have a diet soda at 10am and then another 20oz at lunch. That indulgence adds an extra 72mg per serving, so tack on another 144mg to your tally. You decide to hit the gym before your workout and take the typical EXPLODE product with caffeine. These pre-workout supplements have roughly 300mg per serving and often recommend that you take a double serving before working out, so add on another 600mg. Just an average day in the life of a bodybuilder is looking like over a GRAM of caffeine without even thinking about it (1,224mg to be exact). Now, if you add your caffeine based theromogenic on top of it, you could be ingesting another 600-800mg per day (most “stimulant” based thermogenics contain about 200mg of caffeine per serving in one of the forms mentioned above). For your custom workout and diet plans please contact info@best-fatburner.net to get your custom plan started today.
So, the average bodybuilder is consuming 2000mg of caffeine per day! The recommended level that the Mayo Clinic recommends is two 12oz cans of diet soda per day max or about 90mg. Every day, millions of people take caffeine in one form or another. It can stay in the body for about 10 hours, if you have a fully functioning liver. If you drink alcohol or take steroids or 17aMethyl Pro-steroids, it will stick around even longer. That means the Starbucks™ you had for breakfast is still around at 6pm and if you take something with Guarana, it will hang around even longer. So, what? What is the big deal? Isn’t caffeine the most harmless thing that a bodybuilder can take? Caffeine doesn’t have side effects and it can give you a boost when you are down…right? I need that stimulant to get “going”!
Is caffeine even good in supplements and excercise?
Effects of eight weeks of caffeine supplementation and endurance training on aerobic fitness and body composition. Malek MH, Housh TJ, Coburn JW, Beck TW, Schmidt RJ, Housh DJ, Johnson GO. University of Nebraska-Lincoln
“These findings indicated that chronic use of the caffeine-containing supplement in the present study, in conjunction with aerobic training, provided no ergogenic effects as measured by VO(2)peak and TRE, and the supplement was of no benefit for altering body weight or body composition.”
So, it is more than possible that caffeine does not add to the ergogenic effect in trained athletes and doesn’t help athletes lose weight. How about this study showing the negative effects on creatine supplementation?
Caffeine counteracts the ergogenic action of muscle creatine loading.Vandenberghe K, Gillis N, Van Leemputte M, Van Hecke P, Vanstapel F, Hespel P.
This study shows the caffeine reversed the benefit of creatine and muscle strength. Creatine showed an increase in muscle torque of 10-23% in the subjects studied. According to the conclusion:
“The data show that Creatine supplementation elevates muscle PhosphoCreatine concentration and markedly improves performance during intense intermittent exercise. This ergogenic effect, however, is completely eliminated by caffeine intake.”
So, here we have clear evidence that caffeine eliminates some of the key benefits of creatine supplementation, so why is it in your NO or Creatine product?
Let’s talk about another big problem with the over use of caffeine…type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Why would this matter to the bodybuilder? One big reason! Insulin is the second most important nutrient to the bodybuilder for building muscle and anything that blunts its effect isn’t really a good thing. www.best-fatburner.net has all your fat burner and supplement needs all at discount prices.
Caffeine has been proven in many scientific studies to increase the risk of metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes by blunting the effect of insulin in the bloodstream. In fact caffeine can be implicated in making diabetics fat! Reduced insulin sensitivity causes the body to release more insulin (hyper-insulinemia) which reduces the uptake of nutrients in the muscle cells (stay away from caffeine with your workouts) and potentiates the storage of energy as fat! You can get great custom diet and work out plans taylored for your needs please contact us at info@best-fatburner.net to get started today.
So, in effect this caffeine over consumption might do WAY more harm than good and increase your chances of becoming obese, reducing your muscles ability to recover and taxing your adrenal system. There are reams of documents on pubmed that show how destructive caffeine is to your ability to metabolize sugar and the reduced effect of insulin in a hyper caffeinated environment.
Professional bodybuilders take EXTRA insulin to increase their recovery and size, it is one of the most important nutrient systems that they can use to increase size and recovery. It is second only to anabolic steroids in making the professional bodybuilder ultra big. Why would anyone that wants a better physique take something that blunts the most anabolic hormone in the body next to testosterone? Why take 2,000mg of something that is PROVEN to reduce your recovery and ability to store nutrients? It is insanity, especially when you consider that caffeine has a very dubious effect on its ability to increase weight loss, with very little data showing it to be an effective weight loss aid. Actually, it seems that caffeine barely has a thermogenic effect and there are FAR better ways of getting a mental lift in the gym (although caffeine is very cheap, running about $8 per kilogram, which is why so many companies put it in their supplements to contrast, Yohimbine is about $1500 per kilogram).
Type II Insulin resistance caused by caffeine WILL HAMPER YOUR ABILITY TO GAIN MUSCLE! Period! It is proven in multiple studies: “The present study in mice demonstrates that both models of diabetes impair regenerating muscles as well as uninjured muscles. Regenerating fast muscles are weaker, lighter and slower in diabetic compared with nondiabetic mice.”(-Vignaud, A) Meaning, muscles regenerate more slowly in a insulin resistant environment! How about this study: “In conclusion, individuals with impaired glucose homeostasis have reduced skeletal muscle nNOSmicro protein content.”(–Bradley, SJ)
Insulin resistance is implicated in reduced mitochondria function in the muscle “In conclusion, the current data supports that muscle mitochondrial dysfunction in type 2 diabetes is not an intrinsic defect, but instead a functional defect related to impaired response to insulin.” (Asmann, YW) So, those energy drinks count on the Taurine and Sugar for their performance enhancing effect, not the caffeine. That is if you can trust the Mayo Clinic about reduced mitochondrial activity in response to insulin resistance.
According to Duke University, caffeine can also substantially raise your blood pressure, which is implicated in a whole host of diseases and complications. Additionally, high blood pressure has been linked to the worsening of metabolic syndrome, which is the body’s resistance to normal insulin function as described above. It seems that caffeine WORSENS the effect of raising blood pressure which causes damage and further reduces gains. What else is high blood pressure implicated in? According to the Mayo Clinic web site:
“Excessive pressure on the artery walls can damage your vital organs. The higher your blood pressure and the longer it goes uncontrolled, the greater the damage.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to:
Damage to your arteries. This can result in hardening and thickening of the arteries (atherosclerosis), which can lead to a heart attack or other complications. An enlarged, bulging blood vessel (aneurysm) also is possible.
Heart failure. To pump blood against the higher pressure in your vessels, your heart muscle thickens. Eventually, the thickened muscle may have a hard time pumping enough blood to meet your body’s needs, which can lead to heart failure.
A blocked or ruptured blood vessel in your brain. This can lead to stroke. Weakened and narrowed blood vessels in your kidneys. This can prevent these organs from functioning normally.
Thickened, narrowed or torn blood vessels in the eyes. This can result in vision loss. Metabolic syndrome. This syndrome is a cluster of disorders of your body’s metabolism — including elevated waist circumference, high triglycerides, low high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good,” cholesterol, high blood pressure and high insulin levels. If you have high blood pressure, you’re more likely to have other components of metabolic syndrome. The more components you have, the greater your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease or stroke.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure also may affect your ability to think, remember and learn. Cognitive impairment and dementia are more common in people who have high blood pressure.”
The average bodybuilder doesn’t need higher blood pressure. In fact heavy lifting has been shown to increase blood pressure up to a whopping 250/180 (the average healthy blood pressure is under 120/80), so an unnecessary boost in blood pressure from caffeine. Supplements can certainly use other forms of stimulation to boost the metabolic effect or increase focus and intensity.
Yohimbine for example has been shown by Pantox Laboratories in California, to not raise blood pressure at moderate doses and makes an excellent replacement for caffeine in pre-workout nitric oxide drinks and powders to give the focus boosting effect. It also has a very good thermogenic effect without worsening insulin sensitivity.
Also, many stimulant manufacturers are using things other than caffeine to provide a boost in energy or even offsetting the dangers of caffeine with natural blood pressure reducing agents like Hawthorn Berry (*Search Hawthorn Berry Stimulants for a list) and natural insulin potentiators like Momordica (*search mormodica stimulants for a list) with their thermogenics. Searching the internet for caffeine free stimulants is a good place to start (*search “caffeine free stimulants”) looking for such alternatives.
These items are useful in eliminating the negative effects of caffeine with all of the positive benefits. They are included in many supplements the do not include caffeine. The problem is that most supplements are either stimulants with caffeine or are simply less effective non-stimulant versions, which do not provide the focus and thermogenic effect of stimulants.
Considering the amount of caffeine in dietary sources, the average person consumes enough from their standard diet to add any thermogenic effect to a stimulant based fat burner (caffeine does help increase the effect of other fat burners) without over doing it on the caffeine. So, if your stimulant and pre-workout Nitric Oxide supplement contains caffeine, perhaps you should look for alternatives that contain other stimulants like yohimbine. They will give you the same boost in the gym with out the negatives. If you want a little extra caffeine, have a cup of coffee.
Caffeine has also been shown at high doses to increase cholesterol levels (suicide for bodybuilders taking anti-estrogens to boost testosterone or people using anabolic steroids since a reduction in estrogen, even in males can cause altered lipid profiles) without showing much of a weight loss effect. High cholesterol is something that a bodybuilder should take very seriously, since the current class of pro-steroids on the market has a chance to alter lipid profiles greatly.
Caffeine is something that is damaging to the body builder who wants to build the most possible muscle, by reducing the sensitivity to insulin. Insulin is a key hormone in building muscle and recovery and its impairment will certainly hamper growth. Also, caffeine makes bodybuilders more susceptible to the dangers of high blood pressure and altered lipid profiles which can worsen the chances of sudden death when combined with anabolic steroids. Interestingly coffee is somewhat different since it has been discovered that coffee contains chlorogenic acid, which has been shown to increase the effect of insulin and reduce the metabolic syndrome effects of caffeine (studies found that drinking coffee did not have the same negative metabolic insulin reducing effect as standard caffeine supplements from Guarana or Caffeine Anhydrous). So, if you must have your “caffeine boost” then take it from Charbucks or better yet a coffee company that has good coffee and leave the caffeine out of your dietary supplements! You can get great custom diet and work out plans taylored for your needs please contact us at info@best-fatburner.net to get started today.
